I got a Genseric recently but its passive skill Vicious Vandals doesn't seem to activate during a battle to cure ailments. I'd seen it activate as it moves to the next wave on a Quest, but was no help at all during my final boss fight in the event while my other units get burnt...
Do passive skills like this only activate at the start of a wave, and I'll need something like Cleanse as an ability to actually cure status ailments during a boss fight?
Yep, to clear status ailments during a turn, you need a resist to proc (eg. countering plat Fionn stuns) or a unit with Cleanse (who is not stunned/paralyzed during that turn).
They also don’t work vs traps during Fortress Frenzy, or for quest enemies who apply ailments after your passive proccs.
Their use is supposed to be in UvU where an enemy passive procs to debuff you. Heal ailments will negate the impact.
(And for niche, I suppose Chronus also gets rid of debuffs but I don’t know how often or the *exact* way she does it >~>)

If the condition is applied after the passive ability phase there is no chance of an activation. In the example, an enemy that has a chance to inflict a condition on every attack or has a special attack every so often with conditions.

Retry doesn't hurt too much imo. In UvU there's no time to use it anyways. In FF it can save your turn count when you get unlucky (like that wave 1 red mine that had to blow up your main damage dealer). And it's good to not auto-lose if you have to quit for some reason.
Though 3 tries were enough and I'm not sure why they increased it to 5.
The problem is rerolling and Djehuti has made defense almost worthless. The game should be more than almost mindless runs over and over. The defense should be able to kill you some of the time. There should not be a uniform small number of platinum that are useful. Takedowns should not even be in the game. To avoid this it should always be a rock, paper, scissors aspect to combat. Make the map reset 3 times and toughen defense so that clearing even two is hard and seige points will determine things. The hardest defense on units should require rending or crumple to take the unit down some of the time. Even Staggering should come into play sometimes. Not that everyone needs to use double pound decks but it should be you need one type of deck for one type of defense and another type of deck for another. But no deck should be able to multi though a line of most of the same level units. And this change would allow siege points for barracks back so that weaker players can score for their union, say 1,2,4 based on difficulty.

Idk I've died sometimes to burn gas. Sometimes you just got to accept that traps were too OP. Also RPS doesn't sit well with me.
