Good evening, Ishtarian warriors! Hope you brought some garlic and a stake, because you're going to need it as you get to know this unit!
Per last week's poll (that I set to end a day too quickly), we'll be delving into the world of vampires, specifically Upier.
Mythological Information
Upier is a type of vampire specific to the Slavic ethnic group.
All vampires have a desire for blood. That much is no surprise. The Upier is different, though. It doesn't want to just drink your blood. It sleeps in it and uses it as a special body wash. To get this supply of blood, it returns to its lair after feasting and vomits blood for bonus uses. It holds so much blood in its body that it makes a bloodsplosion upon death.
The Upier doesn't follow the normal rules of sleeping in the day and being a creep at night. Instead, it sleeps from midnight to noon. They look human enough to blend in with society, making their hunting an acting game as well.
There are differing opinions on how Upiers are born. In one theory, a child born with teeth that dies will turn into an Upier. During its "human" life, it's a useful person that can find hidden objects and predict the future. In its life, it drinks blood from corpses in graveyards. It's after death that the Upier becomes hostile and uses its barbed tongue to drain all of its victim's blood.
In-Game Description
Normal (Halloween)
It's been 5 days since I starting tailing her... The more I watch, the more I learn about the true extent of her power. A vampire out stalking its pray IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY!? Can I take her down myself? I have to try... Freaks like her shouldn't be allowed to breath the same air as us.
This description explains the behavior of an Upier from the perspective of someone hunting vampires, possibly for a living. The speaker is most likely Helsing, the vampire hunter. Since daywalking is a rare trait in vampire stories, even a seasoned hunter like Helsing could be taken aback by Upier's behavior. The urgency in her desire to kill Upier isn't just hatred for vampires. It's probably based on the hunting habits of Upiers that has her wanting to act quickly. We'll get to that in the image discussion.

I haven't been THIS excited in a long long time. I'm hungry, but I can wait... Wouldn't want to spoil my dinner, after all... Oh that smell... The sweet smell of blood, I can barely contain myself! Just a little longer... Just a little longer until we dine... On you.
The last Upier description focused on the daywalking aspect of her behavior. This one focuses on her insatiable love of blood. Because stalking prey in broad daylight in public can take a long time, you can imagine that the borderline fetishy lust for blood can make dinner feel like Christmas. This is more or less an internal dialogue that she's having, directed at her victim (you).
Skills of Note
Rush Skill- Bloody Sphere: It would be anti-climactic if there was all this discussion on blood only to not have skills all about blood. Apparently, the Ishtarian Upier can weaponize blood on top of the other uses she has for it.
Passive Skill- Protective Plasma: Same as above, except she can use blood plasma's defensive traits on herself and allies in battle (because reasons).
Multi Skill- Bloody Nightmare: More blood obsession and bloodsplosions, except this bloodsplosion kills your enemies. It's more useful than your average multi skill thanks to the awesome unique that comes with it.
Unique Skill- The First Bite: This skill is the reason you want a union member to have her. At the start of each wave, Bloody Nightmare has a chance to proc. With this in your assist arsenal or deck, you'll can clear entire quests without making a move.
Power Plays
There are 2 Power Plays involving upier. The first is unnamed and unconfirmed per the wiki and consists of units drawn by Saeki Thoma, including Guna, Enki, Midack, Shana, Atra, Upier, Guna (Festival), Guna (Christmas), etc. The alleged Power Play gives a health boost to all applicable units.
Little Blood Suckers: This attack-boosting Power Play can proc when you have Empusa and P7 Upier. Both of these ladies are vampires being hunted by Helsing, as seen in Empusa's description. They also seem to know each other since Empusa mentions Upier in her front page quotes (Upier told me I just had to have a taste...").

Normal (Halloween)
Normal Upier looks like a typical schoolgirl with pale skin and red eyes. She's seen carrying a parasol and wearing orange and black, mainly because she's a Halloween unit. Her hair is white, presumably because she is dead.
Her appearance is the best way to explain her eating habits. She is dressed as a schoolgirl because Upiers stalk children. By blending in as a student, Upier has a limitless supply of food. More disturbing is what she does after killing a child. Rather than move on to another kid, she goes to that kid's home and makes their parents into her next meal. This is what inspired Helsing's rash decision to kill Upier on the spot. Given the quote on Upier's +1 ("I can see you by the way..."), Helsing lost the element of surprise.
Her evolved form is sitting on a pile of pumpkins in a pumpkin patch. She's stripped down to her lingeriein reference to all the movies and books in which a vampire will seduce its victim before killing them because this is Ishtaria. Her hairpieces now have characteristics of bat wings, and she has sprouted bat wings of her own.

This Upier is essentially what happens when you take the +2 of normal Upier and remove references to Halloween. She also has 2 fox minions who lend a hand in Bloody Nightmare. Although animal-people are nothing new in anime, it is interesting that Upier would be assigned such companions. On top of the theory that Upiers were Upiers in both life and death, there is another theory that any corpse could become an Upier if an animal jumped over it, especially if the animal was a dog or cat. Silicon may have given her fox-person pets to allude to this relationship.
Back to the image itself. Notice the knives in the background, seemingly spawned from the magic symbol in the space behind them? They're posed as if they're ready to strike whoever Upier wants. Must come with the territory of being vampiric royalty, which she apparently became between the release of her Halloween version and the release of her platinum version. She now has a golden crown on her head, and her parasol has been replaced by a scepter that still strongly resembles her parasol. This status upgrade to "queen" must be what got her the gold trimming on her clothes and access to fox-servants.
All in all, Upier's an upstanding citizen who's gravely misunderstood. People like Helsing think she's some kind of monster, but they're just being intolerant sanguivoriphobes who need to check their privilege. Clearly all she needs is a family to show her love and compassion. All the murder and bloodbathing is just her way of coping with childhood issues that can be resolved with simple parenting skills like active listening.
