Hi all, I am hoping someone can give me some advice about defence deck building. I have a bunch of cards, self revives, stuns, decrease attack, increase defence etc.
Can someone tell me what are the best combinations for a good defence deck and what some good combination units are please?
Some good P7 decks I saw in CTA recently: - Polaris(reduce atk from Null units) - Ianos(Takes less DMG from non-null units and takes more DMG from Null units) Decent combo of skill to slow down opponent.
Another set which is hard to beat: - Zhuge Liang- Cast 3 debuffs to all enemies on start of wave - Zeruel- Launch 2 or more foes at start of wave - Ethelred- Launched units stay launched +1 turn
As marchosias pointed out, self revive units are the main meta. Having a defence deck full of them is a viable yet expensive strategy for stalling in tvt and uvu events.
Here's some great combos ive seen and used:
combo 1: Polaris, Djehuit, Ianos (doll) -Most defensive combo, damage reduc for all elements! usually takes 2 turns.
combo 2: Fionn (fire), Cerberus (hotspring), Rusalka p7/ Meru (xmas) -Fire fion is prob the #1 annoying def unit. Pair him with stuff to augment him like rusalka p7 which gives him damage reduc. when she takes damage, or even with xmas meru to increase his atk/hp/skill chance for even more stuns and higher survivability. Cerb is a great one with fire fionn, as she will just bring the bugger back if he somehow dies!
combo 3a: Dagda, (self rez unit), (self rez unit) combo 3b: Salix (halloween), (self rez unit), (self rez unit) - Both the same idea, pair 2 resu units with either Halloween Salix or Dagda to increase their chance of being resurrected in the wave.
In addition to just having strong damage soak and turn wasting ability, there are some other strategies that get used often too, especially in FF events where you can set traps. in such events, you will occationally come across this annoying combo:
wave 3: Tamamo, Fionn (earth), wave 4: Seiten Taisei, Susanoo, / Lamashtu (or Upier, but lamashtu gives great value!!)
This kill lineup is designed to reduce your enemy team by dealing surprise damage, hopefully after you've hit them a little already. This setup is best not used as wave 1 or 2 because those waves are best to stall on and hopefully stick a little damage on the attacker (probably after a fire fionn wave, but sometimes much later). Assuming Fion and Tamamo get their skills off upon being cleared (not always guaranteed, as many people run support Dhejuti), the enemy will lose 1 unit going into the next wave and also be stunned. At the start of the following wave, one unit will take damage and damage reduction from Seiten and all units will recieve damage from Susanoo. If you run Upier, she also has a chance to deal her damage to all and potentially knock out another 1 or 2 enemies which pretty much ends the run for the attacker. However, I find running lamashtu to have immense value, especially since I mentioned that most serious attackers will have support Djehuti which means you already lose 1/2 your skill chance. Lamashtu helps that skill chance, while also giving more damage to both turn start damage uniques! She also gives everyone more hp which is always a plus! This is an amazing trick when you have someone also put the Directional Mine trap on the followup wave because the damage dealt will almost guarentee you will remove 1 or even 2 of their units! I like to have the burst disable trap on the followup wave if you cant get a directional mine.
There are also a few units that are really worth mentioning and play a great roll in uvu and tvt events. First to mention is Djehuti (who is part of a huge defensive bulwark combo i mentioned earlier). If you are attacking in the event, you should absolutely have Djehuti as your pound Support unit. She will half the skill chance of the defending waves, meaning fire fionn has 1/2 the chance of actually stunning u and self rez units have even lower chance of getting revived by their ability. IMO she is essential to any serious attempt. Next, Nina (newyears). Her unique ability completely disables the attackers burst gauge on her wave. Third mention is the new Enki, whos unique disuades your opponents from using their abilities. This is important because lots of top15 guilds will run a unit in their attack deck with the ability Reset. Reset can be used to remove your self rez units ability if it activates. That means on a wave they would take in 2 turns after killing your rez unit twice, they can remove the rez and take the wave in 1 turn. this is important for t15 ranking where turn count matters a lot. With units like Enki that will potentially reduce their damage enough that the wave will still take 2 turns (depending on your setup). IMO she is best paired with an 8* self rez, as the unit will already have great stats and be much harder to kill if the enemies get a large damage reduction. Next up is Fionn (earth); He is a bit lack-luster in comparison to his fire version, but he still has his use. Earth fionn can be a good staller, but with most serious attackers running cleanse or debuff removal, he doesnt tend to stand up to the competition. His stats are okay, but he is best used to setup a kill wave to follow him up. Ill list off a few others of note, but the rest are only mediocre compared to the onles already mentioned. They are still good, but not essential although maybe you will find a good combo to use them with or already have a few:
p7 Vritra (reduce damage taken), Cronus (removes resu), Idun summer (reduces damage/skill chance), Daji (chance to rezu self, cant be removed with Reset), Baldr (think she was buffed, now a 30% parry chance!), Upier (kill wave or just damage). Gilles remix (damage! shes great in every deck lol)
In closing I just want to mention one final note. If you have any units that give each other a Power Play (ie Jeanne and Gilles) then you should try to pair them together for that extra bonus. I hope this info was enlightening or at least a little bit helpful. Feel free to message me on line (Antiichaos) if there are specific questions, just dont ask me to build your defensive deck for you :3
